Fall is officially here. Take advantage of the beautiful weather by exercising in the outdoors. Going for a run or even a fast walk can be a great workout and you will easily lose track of time when you are outside surrounded by nature.
Create a Schedule!
Okay let’s be real, being in college can be totally stressful especially during the first few weeks. It can get super overwhelming with the amount of schoolwork and studying that you can easily forget to leave time for yourself. The first thing that I find extremely helpful is creating a schedule. Plan out each day! Start by writing out all your classes and clubs by the time. Then fill in the empty spots with “To-Do” tasks such as homework, studying, eating, working out or even sleeping (yes we all could use a nap once in a while). Planning out your day can really help you be less stressed! However don’t fret if you can’t follow it perfectly, unexpected things can get in the way sometimes and that’s totally okay!
There are so many different things that you can do to stay active during college. Of course we have the fitness facilities on campus but everyone gets lazy sometimes and doesn’t want to leave their room. So what’s the solution? The Internet! There are seriously so many incredible fitness bloggers and youtubers online that can give you an incredible workout without leaving your room! You don’t even need to have any equipment, using your own body weight can be just as effective! Some of my personal favorites are Karena and Katrina from ToneitUp, Casey Ho from Blogilates, Kayla Itsines, and Carmen Morgan.
Make it fun!
Create a playlist with all of your favorite songs on Spotify or follow any of the premade playlists. Spotify is a great application that you can download for free on your phone. Try to choose upbeat songs that will make you want to dance. Something else you can do with Spotify is make your playlist as long as you want your workout to be, that way when the music stops you know you completed your workout!
When it comes to working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle it can certainly be difficult to stay motivated. Something that I find super helpful is to follow a ton of health and fitness accounts on Instagram. No joke at least half of the people I follow are these type of accounts. Not only can you learn new exercises, but it will also motivate and remind you to get moving. Another thing I find helpful is to get cute workout clothes that make you feel good! If you have an outfit that you feel confident in it will definitely motivate you. Many stores like TJMaxx, Target, and Forever21 offer super affordable and cute options.
Listen to your body!
Living an active lifestyle does not only mean working out and eating clean. It means taking care of your body and listening to what it needs. That means sleep! Let’s face it we all have those late nights doing last minute homework but if you neglect taking care of your body, you will see the effects. Sleep deprivation can have an impact on your physical and mental health. If you aren’t properly rested you will see a change in your mood and energy.
Always remember that getting into a routine can take time, so be patient. I hope you found some of these tips to be helpful and that you can incorporate some of them into your life!
