Boston has already experienced the January thaw, so it’s time to start thinking about the spring season and the upcoming trends being forecasted for the nicer weather. 90s fashion has seen its ins and outs throughout the past years and aspects of the infamous time period can be seen in fall, winter, spring, and summer seasons. This upcoming spring season, the iconic 90s trends are just going to keep continuing.
Button-down Skirts
Button-down skirts are all about having a party in the front, and, in this case, giving a boring black skirt a twist. The black number is so simple yet is also extremely retro and will make anyone stand out. What makes it perfect for the spring is that if there’s still a winter chill in the air, a cardigan can be added to the outfit, as shown.
Crop Tops
Stars including Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera rocked the midriff- revealing tops throughout the 90s. Celebrities are still rocking the trend and it will be major style inspiration this upcoming season. This crop top, found at Forever 21, has a retro black and white pattern and flattering high neck fit. Paired with black jeans and a cardigan, it’s perfect for any spring day.
Band Tee
Today, it’s all about rocking vintage wear and the 90s provided one of the best vintage staple pieces, the band tee. Whether it be Guns-N-Roses, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, or Pink Floyd, any 90’s girl needs one in their wardrobes. The skirt and tights add extra making it look straight out of a 90’s magazine spread.
Oversized Flannel
Flannels don’t always have to just scream country. This laid back, lightweight grungy outfit is perfect for any spring day to class. The choker lays perfectly on the neck adding more to the 90s vibe.
Layered Dress Over T-Shirt
This trend, made famous again by stars such as the Jenner sisters and Rihanna, has been huge and it won’t be dying any time soon. The t- shirt and dress layered look provides a modest and flattering take on just a simple slip dress. This trend will be one of the go- to pieces of spring because it effortlessly looks chic and can be worn an assortment of ways in an assortment of colors.
Jean Jackets
Jean jackets are a staple piece no matter what decade. In the spring, it is perfect when a light jacket is needed. They are also an easy and casual way to complement any outfit as shown with the gray t- shirt, black jeans, and choker. Everyone NEEDS at least one jean jacket in their closet!
