Yeezey Season 5 NYFW

New York just saw another installation of fashion week and big name brands like Michael Kors, Coach, Rag & Bone, and Nicole Miller were front and center.  One brand that really hit the mark this week was Kanye West’s line Yeezy Season 5. screen-shot-2017-02-19-at-11-00-14-pm

After past Yeezy seasons, Season 5 was expected to be just as big, but instead the rapper took a more low- key approach, debuting at Pier 59 Studios in New York.  What’s different about this season is that it seems that West switched up his classic aesthetic by adding aspects of denim and fur.  A new line featured jackets reading “Calabasas” as well.

The rules stayed the same with any show that cell phones, photos, videos, and social media are prohibited.

The show saw a first when the show started exactly on time, whereas previous years hadn’t started until an hour after promised.  Kanye West did not present himself after his showcase, but instead, his wife, Kim Kardashian West made a debut.  Another first for the show was that model Halima Aden walked down the runway sporting not only a full- length faux fur coat, part of the new line, but also her own hijab underneath.

Many critics are raving about this season of West’s line saying it is the most refreshing of them all. There was reportedly no drama, unlike past years.  He kept his show short with his presentation lasting around 15 minutes.  Anna Wintour, editor- in- chief of Vogue Magazine, had positive remarks about the line.  “I liked it a lot. I thought his use of the screens was fascinating—and it started on time. A little bit more focus than sometimes we’ve seen from him.”
