Boston’s Hidden Treasure

WRITTEN BY: SKYLA BUONOPANE

My series of picture-perfect places in the city of Boston continues – and the next stop is Chinatown! Hidden behind the busy streets and tall buildings of Downtown Boston, it is easy to miss this hidden gem at the first glance. Every inch of Chinatown is an opportunity for the best memories, scenic pictures, and most important of all – the best food! You won’t want to put your phone or camera down so make sure to bring a charger with you.

The king of all tea shops and possibly the best novelty drinks that Chinatown (maybe even the city of Boston) has to offer! I have not met a single person who has tried a drink from this little tea nook and not instantly fell in love with the place. The menu includes nearly every different type of Asian tea or coffee drink imaginable- as well as various delicious desserts and Asian cuisine like seaweed rolls.

The teahouse itself is very small and entirely covered with wood, but the atmosphere and menu are definitely a huge presence in Chinatown. The Green Apple Green Tea off of Tea Do’s custom menu is a life changer- not to mention its bright green color is a photographer’s dream. Every item on the menu is full of colors to capture, and you can do so while sitting on a wooden block and gazing out the giant window into the city.

Gifted to Chinatown in 1982 and located right near the Financial District, this beautiful archway is THE spot for any aspiring photographers and Instagram connoisseurs who want to capture the true essence of Chinatown. Standing in front of the Chinatown Gate, you will see swarms of people to the left, the most beautiful buildings on your right, and a plethora of restaurants right in front of your eyes. The gate also has multiple Chinese proverbs engraved onto its surface- all of which relate to the emotions of honesty, loyalty, and shame. Whether you’re leaving the area from the Gate or entering, this beautiful piece of architecture is not only worth a snap on your phone- but a moment of your time to just admire in your adventures.

No matter how many times my Boston adventures take me to Chinatown, I manage to find myself in utter fascination of the area. Chinatown is full of life and beauty that goes unnoticed sometimes- but is hard to ignore once you get the opportunity to explore!
